چکیده

We examine the possible trajectories of a classical particle, trapped in a two-dimensional infinite rectangular well, using the Hamilton-Jacobi equation. We observe that three types of trajectories are possible: periodic orbits, open orbits and some special trajectories when the particle gets pocketed. e-mail : [email protected], [email protected] e-mail : [email protected]

Lower estimates for the number of closed trajectories of generalized billiards

Closed billiard trajectories is a classical object first considered by George Birkhoff. A billiard is motion of a particle inside some domain when field of force is lacking, then the particle moves along a geodesic line and rebounds from the domain’s boundary making the angle of incidence be equal to the angle of reflection. Closed trajectories of such a motion are connected with different area...

Classical solutions for a free particle in a confocal elliptic billiard

The classical dynamics of a free particle constrained to move in an integrable two-dimensional confocal elliptic billiard is investigated. We derive the characteristic equations for periodic orbits, classify the orbits, present the Poincaré maps, give expressions for the lengths of the trajectories, and do a stability analysis of special orbits. We also explore some interesting geometrical cons...

Annular billiard dynamics in a circularly polarized strong laser field.

We analyze the dynamics of a valence electron of the buckminsterfullerene molecule (C60) subjected to a circularly polarized laser field by modeling it with the motion of a classical particle in an annular billiard. We show that the phase space of the billiard model gives rise to three distinct trajectories: "whispering gallery orbits," which hit only the outer billiard wall; "daisy orbits," wh...

Intermittency route to chaos from adiabatic to resonance regime for the nuclear billiard

Abstract. We analyze on a simple classical billiard system the onset of chaotical behaviour in different dynamical regimes. A classical version of the nuclear billiard with a 2D deep Woods-Saxon potential is used. We take into account the coupling between the single particle and the collective degrees of freedom in the presence of dissipation for several vibrational multipolarities. It is shown...

Elliptic islands appearing in near-ergodic flows

It is proved that periodic and homoclinic trajectories which are tangent to the boundary of any scattering (ergodic) billiard produce elliptic islands in the ‘nearby’ Hamiltonian flows i.e. in a family of two-degrees-of-freedom smooth Hamiltonian flows which converge to the singular billiard flow smoothly where the billiard flow is smooth and continuously where it is continuous. Such Hamiltonia...
